The People in My Head
So, a writer once told me that, to make sure that my characters are not just one person repeated, I should put them into the same situation and see if they act differently or not. I have truly taken to this advice. For your enjoyment and my peace of mind, I give you "The People in My Head". The characters will all hopefully be in a future project that I am just now trying to piece together. Please note, they are not at all related to Sweet Dream. Thanks! Enjoy!
The People in My Head
With little warning, I see myself standing at a register inside of a pizza shop. I am the cashier. I watch as eight people come in. The first to enter is a man named Hein. His strikingly blue eyes and air of importance grab my attention away from the music playing on the jukebox. Behind him is a man with disheveled brown hair and a scruffy beard. The second man holds the door open for a pale, sickly woman with hollow eyes. She turns to him and speaks with little inflection.
"Marco," she says. "Are we eating here today?"
"Yes, Sangre." He replies with sadness in his voice. Behind him is a stately young man who holds the door open for the next group to enter.
This man has perfect posture and his being seems to perfectly project a sense of duty as he waits for the next two people to enter. The first to enter is a handsome woman named Sara who has the gait of a masculine woman, or a feminine man. The man behind her has a similar aura to the man at the door, but his presence is more jovial, as if he were intentionally avoiding something.
Sara turns first to the man at the door and addresses him as Prince Jung. She informs him that they are here for a meeting. He nods his head in agreement. She then addresses the man behind her as Prince Seose and tells him that the meeting will determine the future. He simply replies, "alright".
Finally, a beautiful woman with copper red hair walks up to the door and takes it to hold it open for an haggard man to enter. He relies heavily on a silver cane to walk. Despite his aged appearance, he could not have been more than thirty. He turns to the woman holding the door. "Roslin," he says in a gentle voice, "please sit next to Sara."
He continues across the shop and walks directly up to the counter. He informs me that he will be paying for everyone. As I attend to the check, he silently watches the group.
Hein sits at the largest table and silently pretends to watch everyone take their places, but his attention frequently returns to Marco and Sangre.
Marco takes Sangre to the farthest seat from Hein. She sits down with elegance in spite of the obvious fatigue that shows on her face. Sara is drawn to Sangre and intentionally sits next to her.
As Prince Jung prevents Prince Seose from sitting next to Sara, Roslin sits down next to her, giving little attention to either prince. Prince Seose then happily sits next to Roslin and admires the navy blue ribbon in her hair.
Prince Jung takes a seat next to Hein and observes the situation as Prince Seose strikes up a conversation with Roslin. Sara looks over at Hein and analyzes him. Her eyes focus on every aspect of his being. He, however, is unaware of Sara's gaze and watches Sangre with a sort of hunger. Marco frequently glares at Hein but is otherwise oblivious to everything around them. At one point, Marco leans over and changes Sangre's elaborate red silk bandage.
My attention returns to Barron. I watch as he struggles to walk to the final chair at the table. As he enters Roslin's field of vision, she jumps up to help him with his seat. I can't help but observe this strange group. I lean forward to listen in on their conversation, but the music on the jukebox starts up again and I become distracted.
