Giving Way to the Wind

Standing on a balcony.
The gentle breeze becomes violent.

It's a good thing I pulled my hair back today.

The cold begins to wrap around me and chills me through my clothes.
I desire nothing more than to stay in this moment and pretend that this is all that exists.

There is nothing more than the clouds in the sky and the cold on my skin.
The gentle pinks and the soft blues are fading into night.

There is no sun left to burn my skin and no voices to distract my thoughts.
I can give in to this.

I can stand here and pretend that the world is only what I see.

I can stand here and calm my soul: the world outside no longer speaks.

I am alone in the wind.
