"Fail" expanded and explained

"I've failed you.

Allow me to elaborate with 'Fail'.
'You'll fail me as a lover.
You'll fail me as a friend,
But you'll never fail me as human.'
My failure then is in not loving you."

I wrote "Fail" in response to a line I read. When I posted "Fail" to Twitter, I couldn't think about how to incorporate the idea of me, the speaker, failing "you". Then this came to mind as the phrase "I've failed you" came to mind. "Fail" is written to be a comfort to the reader. The lengthening of the piece then addresses how I've failed.
