I Am No Savior
I am an example, not as Paul or Ester or Mary Magdalene, but as a sinner. I am Judas and Jonah and Nebuchadnezzar, in desperate need of a corner to hide and pray in. Beat my chest and confess, I have been Peter, Nicodemus, and Thomas. I profess to love and live like Christ yet fall short.
As those before me, I know the sins of my past and my shortcomings—each lives in my memory like horrid vines that twist their way through my mind, keeping me in place.
Regretfully, I have failed many of you through omission. You stand before me as flesh and blood, but I miss the signs of your troubles. I do not love. My choices have consequences as well and with my words and actions, I have hurt you.
I’ll strive to do better with the hours given and remove the plank from my eye. I’ll make amends and love like the three who’ve loved me. Their names are inscribed on my heart, for from their tragedies and mistakes they learned to love deeply.
Death is imminent, inching ever closer—no one can escape the grave. So, as I have life, may I live it.
